Sweating is a great way to detoxify your skin and has a lot of overall health benefits but for some people all that sweating can lead to breakouts and blackheads. Fortunately we have some easy pre- and post-workout skincare tips which will help your skin to stay healthy, glow and look great.
Wash your face!
Every girl wants to look good when going to the gym or go to the gym straight from work with her daily make-up, but the bad news is that makeup can clog up pores as the products mix with the build-up of sweat and this can cause unwanted breakups. To avoid this, wash your face before you start your workout, and remove your makeup. Exercising outdoors? You go girl! But don’t forget to apply an even layer of sunscreen or a light moisturizer (SPF of 15 or higher) and not just to your face but all the exposed skin needs to be covered with sunscreen.
Exercising machines are a breeding ground of bacteria, and you don’t want that bacteria on your face or body? Right! To avoid this, it’s a good idea to wipe down all the equipment you use with antibacterial wipes, if you think that this is too much, then avoid touching your face during your workouts. If you’re a hair care junkie, pull your strands back, otherwise any hair products you used that day could drip down onto your neck or face and will clog your pores, causing breakouts. It is also a good idea to always carry a clean towel and use it to pat your face and neck dry.
Make sure to stay hydrated throughout your workout, in order to replenish the moisture you are losing as you sweat. But don’t hideaway your water bottle as soon as you get out of the gym because your body loses so much more moisture in heated environments, you always have to keep your skin hydrated, pre, during and after your workout session!
Get out of your workout clothes ASAP!
Shouldn’t we all be stepping out of the gym looking like the workout goddesses we are! Definitely yes! With all those rosy cheeks and sweat skin, then it was a great workout, we are all sweat goddesses! Let’s get out of sweaty clothes as soon as possible because the sweat clogs your pores which leads to body acne, so take a good whole body shower with lukewarm water because we don’t want a dry-irritated skin. Taking a hot water shower can actually strip the skin’s natural oils, even though it feels so good but it is bad for your skin.
Moisturize your skin!
After you had a shower and washed the sweat off your face, you’ll still need to slather on moisturizer to replenish water your skin lost during your workout. Choose an oil-free moisturizer if you’re break-out prone, and for a dryer skin try to choose a cream that’s light enough to absorb easily into your skin. As for your body, you can reward it with a rich body cream or apply a soothing body oil and pat your skin dry with a cool towel to give your skin an extra nourishing boost and glow.
